MODULATING
MASCARAS
TOWARDS A NEW LIGHT
PROJECT TEAM: VAMSI KRISHNA VEMURI, MADHU SHANKAR,
JAYAKAR PRIYADARSHAN
The Competition aims at exploring the catalytic potentials of architectural intervention, inciting positive change in the city of Tenancingo (that is polluted with the industry of Human trafficking/sex slaves) - through the introduction of a transformative mediascape. The proposed conversion in the form of a pavilion, in the heart of the city, aims to both educate and empower, reforming entrenched behavior. The Project Modulating Mascaras focuses on creating a positive awareness to bring change from this entrenched exploitation by utilization of a hybrid (digital/physical) mediascapes with the intervention of Gamification and augmented reality.
The carnival of masks presents the disguised festivity of Tenancingo, while the prevalent illicit realities are deeply embedded within the roots. Modulating mascaras is an amalgamation of masks standing tall in the urban fabric, expositing the beautiful yet faulty scarred realities of their society.
MASCARAS - STAGE WISE TRANSFORMATION

SCAR FRAGMENTS - AUGMENTED REALITY MEDIASCAPE

The built-space is monumental as the Teotihuacan pyramids, co-existing in two realities of the apparent defaced real and an exquisite paradise within the transformative mediascape of an augmented digital. The mascaras are constantly in flux, giving people the choice to endure the tarnished present or to heal their disfigurations by modulating the mascaras in the transcending digital reality. So, what will their choice be?
